W 53rd St renamed U2 Way

For a week at least a section of the street belongs to U2 - http://edition.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Music/03/03/ny.u2.way/index.html

NO NO NO. No renaming NYC street names stupid/kitschy/saccharine names. It is ONE WORLD TRADE CENTER, not the Freedom Tower (I'm passionate about this one - the point should be that you knock us down, we rise back up again, not that you knock us down, we start wars/invade countries/become paranoid in our patriotism). It is EIGHTH AVENUE, not the Avenue of the Americas.

And it is WEST FIFTY-THIRD STREET.
Period.

Clearly I'm cranky this morning. I need a nap...

Why does the city do that? I mean change the name of a street. When I walk down the street around Times Square or near the Empire State Building i notice the city put up another sign on top of or below the main sign. What purpose does that serve? When I see a sign I'm not going to call it Fashion St, or Fashion Ave. I'm going to call it 7th Ave, or whatever the main street is called. Changing street names only confuses people.

BTW, 6th Ave is Avenue of the Americas.
