Best Roof Top Bars in the City

Now that summer is officially about to start..party times are back in the city.. I love the NYC bars and restaurants in the summer especially because they offer alfresco dining and rooftop entertainment. I usually love to go to the Hudson Terrace for drinks though some of my friends also like the roof top bar at the Hotel Gansevoort..do you know of any new places which have opened or are about to open this year?

Although I do not go to bars, the one I have seen that people flock to quite often is on 3rd Ave and 29th St. It is called Tonic. They do have a roof top where people hang out.

@hhusted thanks for the recommendation will have to check it out and will suggest it to my friends who always seem to be on the lookout for new places to go to in the summer. Even when choosing a restaurant , they always seem to gravivate towards one with a garden! I know Brooklyn has quite a few but Manhattan?

Are there any rooftop bars that are sort of downplayed and, you know, not so fancy? Those fancy places are not really my scene, though I do love a good rooftop. Maybe I will just stick to hanging out with friends who have nice patios and rooftop views?

@neversleeps: there is a new - ish beer garden in Williamsburg at like north 10th and Driggs (I think) that has a rooftop bar. Also, the Brass Monkey in the Meatpacking is a totally low key bar with a great roof! I go there all the time in the summer.

Nice to know about the Brass Monkey, I'd love a low key hangout for the summer. Anyone know of anything of the sort a bit lower down, that is, in the Village or SoHo or whatever?

@JenMac I think I've been to that place in Williamsburg, but briefly. Brass Monkey sounds cool... how high is the roof?

Anywhere on the Upper East or West Side? I'm not cool enough for Williamsburg or the Meatpacking District. :-(

@ajadedidealist What about the rooftop garden at the Met? Is that uncool enough for you? You don't even have to buy anything to hang out there.
