Manhattan murder rates

Apparently there's been a spike in murders in every borough this past year. Not pretty reading, but here's how the murder rate is doing in our city:

All the same, despite the recent spike, I think it's safe to say that New Yorker is a safer place than, say, in the "bad ol' days" of the Old Times Square, etc. It's all relative!

@ajadeidealist Agreed! I was at Times Square a number of times this summer and felt that it was one of the places where I'd be least likely to get mugged, or to see anything at all shocking...it just felt like one large outdoor strip mall.
