More on NYC schools

Read all about the debates raging about NYC's charter schools, which are operated independently, but with public money. It seems they'll be around a while longer yet:

Whoa...it's crazy that the Republicans were against this bill because it opposes for-profit schools. A for-profit school?!?! The world has gone mad.

Crickets, I'm really glad they're keeping charter schools! As I've mentioned elsewhere, I've gotten a pretty good education from the one I attended, elsewhere referred to as "magnet" schools.

Did you guys read the latest on Hunter College High School and its various woes in the NY times this week? I went there for a year - it's a great, bizarre, eccentric place. Right now the administration is debating whether to alter its strictly academic test-based admissions policy with a more holistic approach that allows it to admit a greater diversity of students. I see both sides of the argument...

@uptowngirl Sounds great! The open atmosphere and the water has GOT to be more conducive to learning than ungly old Bushwick!
