NYC gets control of Governors Island

The city has wrested control of Governors Island which is a 172 acre located in the NY harbor. The island which is a popular summertime getaway for New Yorkers hosts various festivals and events and offers recreational activities like biking, hiking and picnicking. Mayor Bloomberg now has ambitious plans for the island which will soon host a public school and an outpost of NYU.

Do you think the city should spend millions developing the island? I personally think its a good thing .. you?

Well, the schools will do a lot to help develop the place and bring people over. Although I've been invited to lots of public events and festivals, I admit it never seemed worth the trek to go there. Then you're pretty much obliged to spend all day, having made the hike.

So putting in a few things that are utilitarian might actually make sense, and get lazy people like me to think that it's not such a big deal to get over there once in a while.

@Uptowngirl: Yeah, he will probably want to develop it for his own use and not let NYers use it without paying big bucks. At least that is the way he thinks.

Sigh...let's be optimistic! In this housing-starved city, at least there's a bit more SPACE to put things in!
