Under the Radar Festival on now

This one is close to my heart. Under the Radar is a festival at the Public Theater that showcases emerging talent in the independent theater scene. Because of another professional festival that happens at the same time, everybody who's anybody in the performance world is in town, and going to see the shows and take in the parties at the Public. The schedule of shows is here:

The festival runs from January 6 to January 17.

@Uraniumfish Any band in particular that you are dying to see? Do you have tickets for any of these shows?

I'm familiar with Under the Radar as a publication, but wasn't really aware they had a festival going on, so thanks for the heads up.

Not sure if the publication is related, probably not. It's a theater festival that showcases new works by young up and coming groups and theater artists. Lots of these people are friends or people whose works I've admired for years, so I find it impossible to give an objective favorite. Richard Maxwell has been consistently great. Pig Iron Theatre are big crowd-pleasers in Philly, though they are less known here, probably because so many other groups compete for the spotlight.

After this I'll probably go book some tickets for the coming week, and I'll probably go to several shows. As I said, this one holds a special place in my heart.

I always thought that festivals included music and other kinds of entertainment. Maybe I'm wrong. Any one care to shed some light on this.
