Whats the average gym membership cost in New York City?

I'm most likely moving to NYC next year and was wondering what are average rates like for a good gym. I pay about 80 per month and was wondering if that's what I will be looking at when I move. What are you paying?

New York gym prices are outrageous. I think it's because people can't really exercise outside most of the year so the gyms know you'll pay whatever they ask. NYSC and Crunch are both around $100 / month and I think not much down. Equinox is about $1000 down and $175 / month. The problem is that the difference between the gyms is really obvious. NYSC and Crunch are hellholes and Equinox is lovely. You can join YMCA for almost nothing but there aren't that many so you have quite a commute just to go to the gym. I, myself, am an Equinox member after trying all of them. It's worth the extra money. But, they're all insanely priced.
