Free Advice?

Ok.. I saw a post here that says that there is a guy that offers free advice at Union Square.. and I saw a post that said there was a guy offering .25 advice... So.. that inspired me to post this post.. but first, a question...

Have you ever asked for their advice? If so, what did you ask and what did they say?

Ok.. that was two questions, though, only technically the second one only counts if you answer yes to the first one..

ANYWAY...

I was thinking.. what would the most outrageous, yet believable stories we could come up with to ask advice on.. and then have someone here go ask for it and see what the response is....

For example.. I would love someone to ask them 'When my dog evacuates his bowels, it's like a light purple.. should I be worried about this?' Just to see what they say. :)

Don't worry.. if their advice sucks, you can always go get a hug and feel better.

Hmm...maybe the guy was charging $0.25 for advice, I don't remember now. Maybe there are two of them, and as soon as they realize the other exists, a bidding war will ensue...

Oh how funny would that be to see them standing at opposing corners, carrying signs with multiple crossed out prices trying to outdo each other....

@Basic: I never saw that guy. Of course, I am not at Union Square that often. The next time I go, I'll see if I spot the guy, if he is still there. I wouldn't even know where to begin looking when I go there.

Maybe they could just give conflicting advice!

I would like to ask if it's ok to not tell a potential new mate that you have genital herpes if you've only had one outbreak to date. . . the look on their faces would be worth a quarter to me.

@ajadeidealist & JenMac I love it! And one guy can say it's totally okay, and the other can say it's morally repugnant, and then they can get into a fistfight over someone else's imaginary herpes...

And the hugger won't want to get involved because even imaginary herpes is highly contagious!

By the way: way too many people smell like soot and poo to be giving out hugs all day. . . especially in Union Square. I think of the amount of people who never wash their hair in my neighborhood alone and a little bit of vomit comes to my mouth.

@JenMac Hilarious, with all that herpes in the air, and the bloodied advice givers, the hugger will go out of business for sure.

Slightly unrelated joke: how do you drive a barber shop out of business that offers haircuts as low as $6? Open up a shop across the street and post a sign out front that says, "We fix $6 haircuts" Now if the advice guys could hit on a similar strategy...

I wouldn't want to be hugging a complete stranger either, but I could see some funny love advice questions come up, especially if they're both guys. They'd be stumped

@Everyone did you read how Bloomberg has now trained his guns on the Union Square vendors? Actually he wants to reduce the vendor population around many NYC landmarks including Union Square- I for one would be unhappy to see them all go for some of the art in Union Square is actually quite nice and not all of it is touristy junk.

I like street vendors - certainly far more than I like mega-chains and K-marts! The stuff may be kitschy but at least it's generally local...
