Ticks in NY?

I came upon an article a fellow writer friend of mine wrote on AC about how to rid of ticks in your yard. In one of the comments, some one had said that the ticks in NY were bad this year. I didn't know that ticks would be in NY. Maybe Maine. What part of NY gets ticks? After all I haven't been to upstate NY, yet.

When I had field days at Bear Mountain/sports days at Randall's Island/etc while in elementary school, they always used to warn us about ticks. So maybe those slightly more rural bits outside the city proper are worth being wary of, tick-wise

Well, NYC has had a few bedbug epidemics, but I didn't think the ticks would actually survive the concrete and pollution.
