"Quiet street in a decent North BX nabe."

Completely residential street with a mix of private houses and apartment buildings. The Bx#3 bus runs along Ft Idenpendence and it's a quick ride to the Major Deegan Expressway. Broadway is about a 10 min walk away and there you'll find the #1 train, supermarkets, a pharmacy, banks and the Riverdale Diner on the corner of 238th St. Still a nice area, close to Van Cortlandt Park and the smaller, but closer, Ft Idependence Park (nicknamed Pigeon Park by the locals because of all the birds that flock there) which borders the Jerome Park Reservoir. There are schools nearby and most people in the area are working class with kids. All in all not a bad street.

"Average street in the south bronx"

Relatively quiet street near Castle Hill Avenue. Not much to see or do, but you are close to the Bruckner for those that commute into the city for work. Mostly residential, housing project type buildings. It's a ghost town at night, except for your standard inner city night owls. Not a place I'd want to walk by myself after dark. Over on Castle Hill (a block away) there are more shops and people. On a brighter note, there's a Home Depot a few blocks away :-D

"A small loud city (with no parking) within a big loud city"

Carver Loop is basically a cul-de-sac type street on the north side of Co-op City (meaning it has only one cross street which is Co-op City Blvd.). It's close to the parking garage and the high school, Harry Truman. Co-op City is a privately owned high rise residential housing and retail complex. There's a mall with a movie theatre (Bay Plaza), several banks, schools, supermarkets and they even have their own cab service--which comes in handy because any cab driver from outside the area doesn't know where they're going in Co-op. With that said, the area is loud and rowdy, LOTS of kids/teens and they don't know when to go home. No train service nearby, oh and the piece-de-resistance...NO PARKING! Parking is a nightmare everywhere in Co-Op City and Carver Loop is NO exception. I try to steer clear as often as possible.
