Manhattan's current nightlife scene centers on its hip hotels

NY magazine has a recent feature which comments on the new nightlife phenomenon in NYC.. apparently frequenting stand alone bars and clubs is no passe in the city as the party central scene has shifted to the city's boutique hotels like the Standard, the Hotel Gansevoort, the Bowery, Ace etc.

I can't stand hotel bars! They're so gross to me. I just had to go to the Standard Beergarden to meet a friend and it was crawling with slimy trendsters, and pardon my french, Eurotrash. Give me a dive bar any day. I'd rather go to McSorleys than the Gans

@JenMac me too, I only ever go these hotel bars with a cousin who is in the hospitality business though I must admit I used to love the martinis at the Royalton's Round Bar which were once all the rage some years ago. Havent been back to the Royalton since it reopened after a complete make-over in 2007.

Hah! It'll pass. It's too grotesque to last.

@uptowngirl I have actually seen people out alone a lot recently - sometimes reading books at the bar. It's not for me, but I imagine that a woman who shows up to a bar alone won't be by herself for too long.
