"Washington Square is full of weirdos, but I love the NYU library"

I do love the pretty arch over Washington Square Park and I remember seeing Ricki Lake here asking people questions for her show. It's full of weirdos and street performers, but I love this street because of NYU's Elmer Holmes Bobst Library right on 70 Washington Sq. They have a large collection and I went right after two students had committed suicide there.

"A pleasing walk through the park"

Beautiful park to your left, and college atmosphere to your right. What's not to like? Musicians are scattered across the grass, providing nice background noise for a romantic walk through the park. This park seems to be less crowded than the rest, so it is usually a great destination for taking any tourists to take a breath from the busy city.

"University Street Vibrant with Activity"

In 2008, the majority of the park is undergoing renovation due to a (unnecessary) move of the fountain. However, the musicians, activists, and park lovers are all out on the park side of the street. The south side of the street bustles with NYU students going in between the student center, library, law school, and other campus buildings that reside on this stretch.

"Refurb but a classic old park"

Aside from Central Park, you’re bound to see more activity here than anywhere else in the city… Great jazz on the weekends and a variety of buskers all earning a buck knocking out one tune after the other. There are big plans to develop this area and move the fountain in line with the beautiful arch – it’s a controversial development but I do think the park is in need of a refurb. It’s currently closed and fenced off. It’s looking pretty run down in areas and the toilets are very sub-par.. But don’t let that detract from this wonderful square. Come down on a Saturday morning and do some people watching for awhile and give a few dollars to the buskers.
