"Hipster Central"
Blackbird Parlour is a great place on Bedford. It's a cafe and a wine bar. It has that sedate sort of energy that a coffee shop has but they serve great wines too -- in case you want to have wine while you read. Lucky Dog is a bar that has twenty beers on tap and you can bring your dog in there which is pretty cool. Mugs Ale House is sort of a divey, college kids kind of bar but it's really dark and old. Soft Spot is a normal, run of the mill bar but they have cool stuff on weekdays like trivia. All of the bars get really overrun with young, hipster jerk crowd, but on the weekdays some of them are pretty cool.
Anna Maria Pizza is the best place around Bedford for pizza by the slice and it's actually on Bedford right off the L so it's really convenient. And, they're open really late so that comes in handy for this neighborhood's demographic. Bep is a great Vietnamese place and they're really reasonably priced. Dumont Burger has one of the best hamburgers in the city and it's really cute so it's definitely worth checking out. And, if you want pizza in a more civilized environment than the the kids' Anna Maria, then Fornino is a great place. It's nice and the pizza is pretty dang good.
Bedford isn't my favorite street in Williamsburg because there are just too many punk kids. But for things to do, this place can't really be beat. You can do just about anything and never leave Bedford for the entire day. I would just avoid it on weekends when the riffraff comes out to play.
- Tons of bars
- cute shops
- Always crowded
- Always noisy
- Dirty
"Trendy and lively street"
My advice: Just get off the L train and walk Bedford for its entire length from N 13th Street to Broadway. When your feet start to hurt enter the first place you find and enjoy it!
