Flatiron District? Wow, you're lucky! Very safe area, not much nightlife but close to some of the greatest neighbkrhoods for nightlife. Shopping in the area is great, by Midtown, Garment District, and Union Square.Dining in the area is also great. Make sure to stop at shake shack!

Flatiron is a weird neighborhood. It has a very professional energy, in my opinion. And, it's swarming with tourists because of its proximity to Union Square. All of the buildings are pretty big, there isn't much in the way or greenery or trees and there are people everywhere. It doesn't seem like a neighborhood so much as a place people walk through to get somewhere else. That being said, if you can find a reasonably priced apartment, it's not an awful neighborhood to live in. It's very central: you can be in Gramercy, the Village, Chelsea and Union Square all within 5 minutes of walking. It's close to a ton of transportation and there are a lot of delis, grocery stores, clothing shops, etc. The restaurant and bar scene isn't outstanding, but there are some great places. Lillies is one of my favorite bars and it's on 17th and Broadway. Ryehouse is at 17th and 5th, Rosa Mexicana is on . . I can't remember but I think 15th and Park. Plus, you're so close to all of the other hip areas, it's not a big deal. Just don't expect to have much ambience outside your window.
