"Safe, secure and quiet at last."

After searching and searching for a quiet and safe location to live, my fiancee and I finally found our home. Super quiet neighborhood with nothing but friendly people. This feels like a perfect suburb in NJ or CT until you look out and realize you are only 5 miles from Manhattan. Public transportation is almost nill - fortunately I'm a driver and the bus goes right to the mall, where the non-driving lady works.

No more 6 cab in very unsafe Jamaica and two train transfers for the wifey, a beautiful 5 minute walk and 15 minute bus ride gets her to work. When I asked her how her first ride was she was all smiles. "I didn't have to listen to anyone's headphones, an old lady was getting on the bus and everyone tried to help her AND the bus driver fist-bumped a guy on a bike". Even the (limited) public trans is a pleasant experience. And talk about bang for your buck when it comes to rent. If you drive, EVERYTHING is nearby. Also love strolling down Grand Ave on lazy Saturdays. Can't wait for the Memorial day parade!!!

"Quiet neighborhood that is close to happening areas"

This is a very small Queens neighborhood, but it isn’t a bad spot to be a resident, especially if you are young and want to be close to areas like Williamsburg and what the real estate agents have termed “East Williamsburg” in Brooklyn (meaning the area of Bushwick where artsy types and party animals are moving in for the cheap rent). Just because it is close to so many happening Brooklyn neighborhoods doesn’t mean that Maspeth itself isn’t quiet, though – it is. Much of this neighborhood’s land is actually taken up by cemeteries, which some may find slightly disturbing. They are, however, usually separated from residential buildings.

wartman I don't believe the poster is talking about Maspeth. Maspeth really isn't that convenient to Williamsburg or much of the city unless you happen to own a car since Maspeth has no subway access. Between Maspeth and East Williamsburg is an industrial no-man's land. For those wanting lower rents and easy access to Williamsburg a much better choice would be either Bushwick or Ridgewood - especially for a younger demographic.
