"An unexpected gem!"

Grand Army Plaza is undoubtedly in my Top Five places in Brooklyn. The Civil War memorial arch that sits in the center of the Plaza is probably the most beautiful monument in the borough, and the Brooklyn library across the way isn't too shabby either, even if the building is not really geared toward my tastes. Beyond the arch there is a fountain that has been bursting and burbling since summer began, and in spite of the horrid amounts of traffic the area stays leafy green and beautiful.

There is an entrance to the north side of Prospect Park here as well - which is by far my favorite park in Brooklyn. The buildings that surround the roundabout are an interesting mix of old and new. I prefer the old ones - they're really beautiful - but the glass apartment building across from the library can make for some interesting people watching.

Besides a number of picnic tables outside of the city library, there are also a number of places to lounge around and people watch around the plaza - especially right in front of the park. You see a lot of musicians playing in the area, and on warm weather weekends there is a fabulous farmer's market in Grand Army Plaza.
Pros
  • location - acess to Prospect Park, Brooklyn Central Library
  • weekend farmer's market
  • surrounded by amazing architechture, arch, fountain
Cons
  • slow-moving traffic

"The entrance to a marvelous park"

Grand Army Plaza is in Brooklyn. It is an oval square that forms the main entrance to Prospect Park. At its center there is a beautiful Arc, similar to the Arc de Triomphe in Paris. Once passed through the Arc, the noise of the city is left behind and one can enjoy the beauty of Prospect Park. In summer great concerts are hosted here.

"The infamous Brooklyn Library"

I love this library. Its a nice way to get to peace and quiet. Being in the city is cool, but sometimes it gets overwhelming or your days are stressed and you need to sit in a corner with a good book. This library contained information about my ity that wasnt even in my local library. I seen old newspaper clips dating from 1986-- The year I was born.

"Grand Army Place in Brooklyn, New York"

10 Grand Army Place in Brooklyn is home to one of my favorite, and most visited attractions. It is not a museum, or theatre, or shopping district and admission is always free: The Brooklyn Public Library! I recently learned that the Brooklyn Public Library is the fifth largest library system throughout the entire nation, its size will amaze you. For a nice break from the tourist spots and hustle, stop by the library for a quiet read, or attend one of the many programs they offer to the public.
