I want to move to Upper West Side Manhattan I need to find a cheap place any ideas?

I would really like to move to Upper West Side Manhattan it is my ultimate dream! I am from England and I have been searching for places to rent for a while and cant seem to find one around my price range, im looking for a 1-2 bedroom place but like i said i need to find a job too to support myself its a complete stab in the dark me moving here, Is there anyone that could help me find a place or have any information for me to help me on my way? craigslist.org is helpful in finding apartments.
hopstop.com will help you get around nyc by subway (our version of the tube)

How much are you looking to spend? The bigger the place, the more pricey it will be. If I were you I would try to get a studio in a doorman building. That will keep the cost low and ensure a better sense of safety.
