The entire town is kind of "meh," except for a number of rather exceptional restaurants that can be found just about anywhere in the city. Besides that, the only reason I can think of to live here would be if you worked for the behemoth Corning Glass. Other work prospects in the city are rather poor - temporary, low wage, bad schedule, badly managed, dead end jobs (the words and impressions of locals who have lived here for years, moreso than my own).

If you DO get a decent job, make sure it's in walking distance of your living arrangements, because 3 things that Corning does absolutely awful at are Parking, Traffic, and Public Transport. You can go your entire life without a parking ticket, but I GUARANTEE you'll get at least 2 if you live here for even a month, because the rules are completely arbitrary, zealously enforced, and the only way to know the rules is to spot one of the maybe 6 signs in the entire city that details them (as you drive by at 30mph), meters are constantly broken (but you get ticketed anyways), and paid-parking is rare and very expensive. The lane coordination and traffic management in the town are absolutely horrible, meaning unless you're a local and already intimately familiar with the odd street rules, then you're either going to be forced into a turn you don't want because the lane you're in has suddenly become a left turn only lane, or you're going to be making an enormous crowd of other cars hate you when you try to force your way back onto the path you want. I can't tell you how many times I've turned into alleys or parking lots thinking they were streets because there are TRAFFIC LIGHTS on them. And of course, you can't turn around and go back out the way you go in, so you drive through and hope that you aren't hopelessly lost on the other side.

And don't think you can just take a bus, because I've only ever seen one bus in all the times I've visited, and it was at 5am. I wouldn't even know where to go to get a schedule.
