"No pirates are found here.."

In this street that ends in the harbor you will not find a pirate ship of Captain Red Hook that you can show to your kids. Instead the area has activity for loading and unloading cargo vessels. This also makes great photo opportunities. Even trainspotters like us where having a great time in this remote harbor area. I would not want to live here but just passing through is enough.

"Just another tunnel but a MUST after visiting Amsterdam, NY!!"

After visiting Amsterdam, NY we also had to drive to through the Holland Tunnel that connects New Jersey with the Island Manhattan. After asking later with our friends in Brooklyn we learned it has nothing to do with the country Holland. It was named after the person who build it. There is nothing to recommend here but be aware that you have to pay toll to go through it.
Ps. This might be the first every review of a tunnel. :-))

"A Golf course in Brooklyn, no one believes you!"

If you tell anyone that you played Golf in Brooklyn New York, nobody believes that. The Dyker Beach Golf Course is located next to this Parrott Place and in the south side of the Dyker Heights area. An excellent location for a student job during the summer months. We always parked our car in the Parrott Place but one could also easily go to the golf course by bicycle from 19 th Lane. :-)

"Another familiar named location was found.."

My wife wanted to see what her name would be in Brooklyn, it turned out that Juliana was close enough to Julia. This street was in a quiet neighborhood, we thought but it seems there was at the time we went there a shooting ongoing. We had to stay on the other road and where not allowed to go into my wife's name street. Next time when we are in New York we will try to visit it again and take some pictures.

"A matchbox street"

This street is so small that you hardly know you are on it or passed it by. When you are reading the map while driving on 21st Avenue you notice 21st Lane and 21 st Drive and when turning right into the Shore Parkway you noticed that the Bensonhurst park and the sea view have taken all your attention away from where you are supposed to go. It took us a while to find 19th Lane. Nowadays we would use a GPS navigator and enjoy even more the surroundings of Bensonhurst.

"You easily get lost here..."

You easily get lost here while searching for 19 th Lane. The houses in this area are having more garden and nature around them than in 19th Lane. Also the Bensonhurst Park is great to walk on a rainy Sunday afternoon while trying to find 19th Lane. We noticed a few houses for sale in the area but the prices were a bit to high for our budget, at that time. :-)

"Old part of town with some fresh students"

This relatively old part of town, or should I say city ;-) , has houses that look like little warehouses where they normally would store cargo and spices but in fact they are just brick row houses. The neighborhood is rather green and suitable to walk with your dog but we did not go there to walk. We where visiting some student friends of ours.
The area has not so much activities but the house prices were affordable for renting. :-)

"Catherine Slip, a great place to take a picture.."

Catherine Slip, a great place to take a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. It was a difficult job to find a good position for taking a picture of these famous landmarks in one panorama photo. What we did was just take set set of pictures and merged them later together with photoshop. :-)

"Bob has his own street."

A part of the Church street has been renamed a few years ago to the Bob Marley Boulevard to remember the Reggae legend who died in the early 80's. We did not find the neighborhood that interesting but it is interesting to see what street names where starting with Bob. Only that made this location already a focus point of our journey to start with. ;-)

Note:
That the google maps location is not correct. The boulevard starts at E 98th st and goes until Remsen Ave.

"Great place for trainspotting!"

The Shell Road is located near a big freight train station. The actual station is in between the Shore Parkway, Stillwell Avenue and the Shell Road. From the Shell Road you have excellent photo opportunities if you like trains.
For other people this Shell Road might be a nice road further north but we did not go that far. We are trainspotters. @:-)

"Moses came by here and the sea has dried up here!"

The Sea Breeze Avenue is located next to a park called: Seaside Park and of course next to the sea. The park is not that interesting but from the beach behind the Surf Avenue you will have much more enjoyment in the summer.
Parking is a but complicated since there is the nearby Astroland Amusement Park. There are just too many visitors for that aquarium and they all drive by your place on the Sea Breeze Avenue.

"Graffiti artists and trainspotters heaven!"

This industrial area is a heaven for trainspotters and graffiti artists. Not a place to visit during the evening but well worth to spend some time with your kids to watch the trains arrange their wagons. There is no entertainment besides the trains themselves. As for the graffiti artist, they wagons and bridges were full of scribbles and painting when we were there taking pictures.

"Nothing like the Amsterdam city I knew in Holland, Europe"

This was the most amazing silent and desolated city I have every seen. I was on my way to Boston by car and took a turn on the highway to see what this Amsterdam was like. It was horrible. It looked like an old mineworkers town.
So far the only Amsterdam that I knew was in The Netherlands in Europe. This town Amsterdam, NY is totally on the far opposite side of the entertainment scale. I did not find any shop or living being there, only old deserted factory compounds...
It would be an excellent movie location, though... :-)
