Southwest 40th St
"A real Miami Street"
This is a street that lets you know that you are in Miami right away. Things that you see will reflect the years and phases that the city has gone through. Small houses with street access have become medical offices and dental offices. Real estate agents use the small building similarly. This is also one of the first streets that ties the 826 to US1, which makes it a very busy street. Traffic can sometimes be a problem since there are still trains that utilize the tracks that cross the street. Just be prepared to see one of a kind shops and restaurants that line this Miami Street.
Southwest 87th Ave
"A Great Go-around"
This street is a great north south people mover that cuts through residential and commercial zones alike. It is a great alternative to some of the highways that serve the area and saves a lot of time for those that utilize it. Countless subdivisions and strip malls line it on both sides. There is everything one would need as far as schools, restaurants, grocery stores, and entertainment right on the street. Not to mention that is has a 5 star resort of a hospital towards it's southern endpoint!
Northwest 95th St
"the morning and evening parking lot"
at some points twelve lanes of free parking. The 95 as it runs through miami is a terror at times. Now that they have added a commuter set of express lanes, it serves the northern Miami exits worse than ever before. I really don't think that there is anything that could be done to save the 95 other than adding a few lanes on top of it and calling it the I-95.1. There is also a ponding problem where the design around the hospital allow water to pool up in the lanes easily able to hydroplane vehicles. WWhen it is all said and done with its many flyovers and overpasses, this stretch of road is quickly becoming more and more inadequate.
East West Expy
"The Dolphin Expressway"
With the exception that from the 826 you have to travel east just to get off the highway and go back west, this highway is a step up from the palmetto expressway. You just have to expect the delay that seems completely unjustified in the eastbound lanes right before the red road exit. This is the fastest way to the beach and the airport from south miami and the kendall area. Just make sure that you have you sunpass handy or the wait for the cash lines at the toll plaza will set you back.
Palmetto Expy
"Simply the worst!"
Since coming to Miami, SR 826 has been one of my biggest nightmares. In the five years that I have been here it has always been under some form of construction and I've heard from locals that it has been under construction since they have been alive. It is notorious for accidents and ridiculous traffic. If you want to go north and south sometimes the city streets will get you there much faster than the 825 will. Not to mentions that all the exits fill up in the morning making a 5 mile trip take well over an hour. This thing either needs more lanes or a 2nd highway on top of it to make it effective.
Southwest 116th Ave
"Typical Miami Street"
This place is my shortcut to get to work in a hurry. It is usually pretty reliable when it comes to consistency. It is full of little eateries that make for great local fare and there is pretty good shopping close by. The street serves more as a scenic route for people familiar with the area but it is still a good escape from the traffic riddled main streets the cross the city.
South Red Rd
""Two lane main street""
I used to have to take this street from Sunset Place all the way to the airport for work. It has mean commuter traffic in the morning and in the evening. Be careful in the summer the drainage for this street doesn't seem to be adequate. It flood pretty bad and makes people drive pretty crazy. Other than that this street offers a little of everything. It has the old miami feel once you get to calle ocho it has endless small shops offering all kinds of wares.
Southwest 49th Ave
"US1's little brother"
This is the best kept secret in Coral Gables, Fl. Ponce extends north and south past the University of Miami and the east and west into the heart of Coral Gables. It is home to many shops, stores, and most of all restaurants. You can any type of food traveling up and down Ponce. Just be prepared to wait for parking!
Southwest 98th St
"Small street w/big time necessity"
I stayed on this street for approximately two years and it did not change that much. It houses a slightly out of place mall on one corner and a great deal of shops and a convenience store on the other side. It normally has at least one homeless person outside asking for spare change. The neighborhood isn't bad, you will see people walking there dogs. Overall this street services a large number of apartments and usually is pretty quiet except for the weekends
