"run down neighborhood"

This part of Des Moines is filled with some dilapidated old homes. Most are very small, falling apart, and not worth anything more than the price of the lot the homes sit on. The neighborhood doesn't have a lot to offer in the way of leisure or accessibility to anywhere fun.

"established neighborhood with swimming pools"

This part of Stockton is quaint and homey. There are a lot of newer, larger homes interspersed with some smaller, less assuming homes. Yards are a little on the small side, but a lot of swimming pools sprinkle the backyards of this neighborhood. It is very conveniently located just a few hundred feet from Carlton Forbes Freeway, which means it is easy to get around, but there is a lot of freeway noise here.

"great place for college students to live"

This neighborhood is teriffic for single college kids. There are a lot of homes for rent in this area, and it is not as typically quiet as other parts of Stockton since Univeristy of the Pacific is literally a stone's throw from here. A great, happening residential part ot Stockton for fun singles looking for a party any night of the week.

"breathtaking mansions and beautiful surroundings"

People actually have piers as their driveways! Some small canals run through this neighborhood, and it is truly stunning. Some of the biggest homes I have ever seen in my life are in this part of Stockton, and I would give anything to live in them!

"Good balance between urban and suburban"

At one end of this street there are a lot of shopping centers, and easy access to the freeways and tollroads. At another end of this street is a wooded area with a lot of residential homes. It is a good balance between being urban and suburban, with shopping, movies, and entertainment very close by, but beautiful old homes looming in the distance.

"beautiful residential area"

This part of Bellaire is on the upswing in Texas. It has a lot of wonderful old homes and wooded areas. It is urban in some places with great small businesses and restaurants, and in others very secluded. A great street to live on, and just a few minutes from downtown Houston!

"Beautiful, quiet, surburban part of town"

You would never guess this suburb of Houston was so close to the city! Bissonnet Street is long, and at times is surrounded by gorgeous fields and parks. In other parts of town it is hip, urban, and trendy with bike shops, donut shops, and other restaurants. It is a fun, urban place to be.

"Beautiful almost urban feel"

You can follow McKinney Street right out of the heart of downtown to a number of parks in the area. It is a winding road, which can take you to Sam Houston Park or Tranquility Park in the area. If you follow it into downtown, you can shop, eat, or just see the sights of downtown Houston. A great place to visit.

"Great part of downtown"

It doesn't seem as hot in this part of Houston during the day. Parts of Dallas Ave are shaded at almost all times, so even in the summer when it is sweltering elsewhere, Dallas Ave has a lot of cool retreats. It is part of the busy hustle and bustle of downtown Houston with great restaurants nearby, coffee shops, and hot dog stands. Macy's is right within walking distance, and you can walk or catch a cab just about anywhere else in the downtown area from right here.

"right in the heart of downtown"

Travis street is right in the center of downtown. It is bustling, noisy, and busy with a lot of office buildings, restaurants, and shopping. Good luck finding a parking space anywhere on the streets! Look for a garage that doesn't charge you an arm and a leg. From this part of town you can hoof it to just about anywhere in the downtown area. Great vibe, great shopping, and fun restaurants to suit any taste.

"busy part of sharpstown"

This place is a bit rundown and part of old sharpstown. It is also full of townhomes and apartments, as well as quirky urban dives and greasy spoon restaurants. A lot of cement, concrete, and very little shrubbery and greenery in this area. A good place to get started off with low rents and lots of singles.

"Not a great place to be in the city..."

It is residential on Clark Street, but it is right off a major thoroughfare, and it gets noisy. There is a lot of crime, and a lot of rundown buildings and homes in the area. I don't recommend travelling here by yourself at night.

"A bit of the seedy side of Detroit"

This part of the city is dirty and noisy. It is located right near railroad tracks, and very close to the interstate. It is loud and seedy looking. There are some recently renovated lofts in the area, but they didn't add to the value of this part of town--it is a bit scary here.

"quiet wooded part of detroit"

This part of Detroit is surprisingly quiet and suburban feeling. There are a lot of woods nearby, and homes with huge yards and lots of trees. It is quiet, yet close to 7 Mile Road, and you can get just about anywhere you need to within a few minutes' time.

"Urban neighborhood, chic and stylish"

This area has a lot of renovated buildings with beautiful old apartments. The neighborhood has been styled to be a little city within the city, with tons of cafes and restaurants and shopping within a few blocks' radius. It is a great little haven inside the inner city, close to wayne state university and Detroit Medical Center.

"In the heart of the city"

This street is a residential area with skyrise apartments and a large park. It is close to Wayne State University, and is just a few minutes from I-94 and I-75. You can see the Detroit skyline from here, but it is loud and busy in this part of town.

"spectacular bay view"

Huge Mansions line this street. And when I say huge, I mean HUGE! Homes are right near Biscayne Bay, and are so big, you can get lost trying to decide which home is more spectacular than the last. Huge palm trees line the streets, and give lush scenery to the yards. If I could buy a home here, I would. It looks and feels just like paradise.

"close your eyes until you are back on the highway"

Another wrong turn here. Delapidated old homes, liquor stores, and pawn shops plague this area of the inner city. I was afraid I would get mugged or carjacked. Get out if you can!

"Great place for beginners..."

If you are new to the area, or if you are single, or without kids, this may be the place for you. There are a lot of apartments in the area, and a lot of them seem to be a bit run down. It is very close, however, to the National Arboretum, which is spectacular, and very close to public transportation.

"suburban area just minutes from capitol"

This street has a lot of old Victorian Mansions, and is just a few minutes from the Metro. It is great to walk down the streets and look at the old homes and rambling front lawns, which are rare in such a large, sprawling city. It is just across the river from the Washington Naval Yard, and has a lot of other homes and residences surrounding it.

"Get out of there if you can"

I was lost in this part of town. While a lot of it is trendy and chic and everything urban your heart's desire, it is also a bit rundown. It is considered part of the old city, and is close to chinatown, and close to parts of georgetown university. It is seedy looking, however, and there are a lot of old, rundown buildings and a lot of people loitering on corners and in front of stores.

"An up-and-coming hot spot"

"Quiet residential street"

This part of D.C. is very residential. It has beautiful old homes that are just a few steps from the Potomac River. Many of the homes are rowhouses, but not in the horrible sense of the depression--they have been updated and are completely livable. It is also just a few minutes from Georgetown University. Beautiful part of town.

"Serene, suburban spot"

Right off Palmer Square, this is a great part of Chicago to live in. It has a lot of residential homes and streets in the area, and a large park. It is like a suburb just west of downtown. If you are here, check out Mom's Pizzaria, just off Armitage road. Great grub!

"HUGE homes, close to the lake"

"A downtown hotspot"

This is the place to be in Chicago. A great place to visit, and live. It does get crowded and noisy, so if you don't like crowds, this isn't the place for you. But this part of town is right in the middle of it all. Just a few blocks from Lakeshore Drive and the beach to the east, and museums, libraries, schools, and world-class restaurants all around. It is just a few steps from the bus and L stations, so from here, you can get anywhere in Chicago.

"A great spot in Greektown"

Oooh, the food, the food, the food! This part of Chicago has the most Greek restaurants in a row, and it is absolutely wonderful. "A charming piece of Old Denver"

This street is very similar to Gaylord Street just past the hustle and bustle of immediate downtown Denver. It is within walking distance of Einstein's bagels, a great burrito joint, and some other cafes and shops, but has the beautiful old restored mansions and apartment buildings. Big lawns in front of the homes, with sidewalks needing stairs to reach them. Beautiful part of town, with some crim to be somewhat concerned about.

"a small residential street in a commercial area"

"A little of everything on one thoroughfare"

University Blvd is a beautiful part of town in places. It takes you past some of the glorious old campus of the University of Denver. "Pretty old buildings, but a lot of crime"

This part of Denver is very old, and very pretty. There are a lot of old mansions which have been converted into walk-up apartments. There are also some interesting shops and stores in the area of Pearl Street, and it is within walking distance of the Capitol Building downtown. The area can be very pretty, but it also has a lot of crime. There are a lot of homeless people in the area, as well as the Denver City Jail closeby, which makes it not the greatest place to be alone at night, but beautiful during the daylight hours!

"A scary area of town"

I wouldn't travel this part of Denver alone at night. A friend of mine had a daughter that lived off W. Alameda Ave, and it was pretty frightening in the area. There is government housing in the area, as well as a lot of pawn shops and bars, which kind of makes it a breeding ground for crime. I would advise you lock your doors if you need to get out of your car for anything in this part of town.

"old mansions, and beautiful part of town"

This street is close to everything. It is close to downtown Denver, and just off City Park. It has glorious restored mansions along the residential streets, as well as some interesting businesses along the way. "somewhat seedy side of town"

This part of town is not the greatest. A lot of run-down buildings, and a lot of noisy traffic pass by Holly Street between Evans Ave. and I-25. There are some shady looking bars, like the Dirty Duck bar. It is mostly a commerce area with a car dealership, a post office, and a few small businesses, CDOT headquarters, and some other buildings, but I am always struck by the number of homeless people I see in the area.

"Quaint, old Denver"

The route West on Downing Street from Highway 285 is quite pleasant. It is an old neighborhood, with small cottages and quaint sidewalks and driveways. "a path in the middle of nowhere"

North Gate Road is on the Northeast side of the Springs, and is home to the Western Museum of Mining and Industry. The setting itself is not much to speak of. S. Tejon Street is home to the Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum, and it bisects S. Nevada Avenue, one of the major thoroughfares of Colorado Springs. N. Cascade Avenue in Colorado Springs has a lot of small businesses and old shops. It is also home to the Money Museum, which is an interesting stop. You can see all kinds of rare money on exhibit, from unusual coins to misprinted paper money. And best of all, the museum is free to get in!

"a beautiful place to visit in the heart of the Springs"

"a great pass-through to Garden of the Gods, or a stop-off I-25"

There isn't a whole lot happening on Garden of the Gods Road in Colorado Springs. However, there are tons of Gas Stations and fast food restaurants if you need to grab a quick bite, or fill up on your way to or from Garden of the Gods--quite possibly one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

"Mixed retail/restaurant crowds"

Evans Avenue goes from beautiful to seedy really fast. There are a lot of bars and restaurants along Evans Avenue, some of which I would refuse to enter without making sure I have received a tetanus booster shot. There are estate auction sales shops, as well as car dealerships near Holly and Grape right off I-25, and further along you can get a slice of Pizza at Anothony's pizza and pasta, and take in the Grandeur of DU's rolling campus.

"Bustling city all around"

I used to work in a building on 19th and Curtis Street. It is a spectacular part of the city--far enough away from the major crowds of the 16th street mall, but close enough to major shopping and attractions to be convenient. It is the home of a store selling cookie bouquets, which are so pretty to look at but delicious enough to eat, some quick, easy restaurants like Quiznos and Qdoba, as well as starbucks in every direction. Hampden goes all the way from the mountains to the city of Aurora. It is an interesting stretch of highway, where there is plenty of shopping available in the newly renovated Alexan City Center, places for the kids like Chuck E. "major thorougfare for a person with an appetite for thrifty shopping"

Santa Fe has everything alongside it. It is a higher-speed street than some more residential streets, but has a ton of different shops and warehouses off the road. From furniture outlets to a Christmas outlet store, there is just about everything offered on this stretch of road. Further north, there is easy access to I-25, just before it turns into Kalamath Street and takes you into the heart of downtown. "Major Denver thoroughfare"

Federal is a North-South thoroughfare through Denver, and offers another seedy glimpse into the underbelly of Denver. While there are parts of Federal that offer interesting shopping and dining, it is not a place I would generally stop to visit. It is peppered with pawn shops, bail bonds, and strip clubs, along with liquor stores and payday loan sites. It is not my favorite Denver place, but I will travel via Federal Boulevard if it is necessary.

"The seedy side of Denver"

There are a few streets in Denver which should be used mainly for commuting. Sheridan Boulevard is one of these streets. It is a seedier view of Denver, with a lot of gang activity and crime and a lot of traffic accidents. It is a good thoroughfare to get to where you need to go, but I don't recommend stopping and shopping anywhere on Sheridan. There are plenty of Supermarkets, beginning in Bear Valley shopping center with Albertson's and King Soopers, and a Home Depot also in the shopping center. I would not stray much farther than Bear Valley if necessary to do shopping. It is closer to the Littleton suburb, which seems to be a little safer.

"A long stretch of road where you can see everything downtown has to offer"

Colorado Boulevard is a major gateway to the wiles of downtown Denver. If you turn onto Colorado from Hampden Avenue and head toward the city, you will see just about everything. From the Countryclub lifestyle, to some of the seedier areas of town. Continue further into the heart of Denver, and you will approach Cherry Creek Drive where there is some posh shopping at Cherry Creek shopping center, and even further down Colorado you will approach Denver Zoo and City Park. There are plenty of places to eat from Hooters wings to Israeli cuisine. An interesting place, depending on where you choose to stop!

"artsy corner of Denver"

Writer's Square, the Tabor Center, Howard Lorton Galleries --it's all right there on Larimer Street. I love this little corner of downtown Denver. You can walk along Larimer and be invited to an outdoor patio cafe of a restaurant on the corner of 18th Street and Larimer, or continue on to the Tabor Center for shopping, or pop in to the Cheesecake Factory. There are shops to suit any tastes. I love Writer's Square on Larimer. Later in the evening, walk under the canopy of lights strung over a section of Larimer, and pop into one of many jazz bars or martini bars. It is a beautiful place to be!

"a big city with small town feel"

As far as big cities go, Denver is on the small side. However, downtown Denver has everything to offer from Posh neighborhoods to good eats, to beautiful parks and breathtaking mountain views. North Avenue offers a melting pot of style and flair. "Breathtaking city views"

There is nothing in the world like driving down Lakeshore Drive at night. There is something to be said about the quiet beauty of the lake on one side, and the city lights on the left. Suddenly, the road curves to the right and you are cruising along with the lake to your right and the city to your left. Breathtaking!
