"A Village Street"
There's a lot of greenery around Washington Place between Washington Square Park and Sheridan Square. This doesn't sound that exciting but having green around you at all in downtown New York is pretty exciting. There used to be a lot of speakeasy kind of places, little theatres and tea rooms on this street but they've all gone under or moved uptown by now. And, it's mostly filled with places that appeal to NYU students given its proximity to the "campus."
I love Washington Square Park during the day but I don't know that I'd want to live so close to it. There's a lot of riff raff there -- as in any New York park, sure. But, it used to be a massive cemetery and they never moved the bodies. And, they used to conuct public executions here and the "hanging tree" still stands. It's just a little spooky to be around at night, in my opinion.
Another thing that's interesting about Washington Place in the spook factor realm is that the Asch Building is on this street. The Asch Building is the site of the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire of 1911. About 150 women were locked in the building while they were on the clock in a Shirtwaist factory when a fire broke out. Well, more like girls, I should say because I think the oldest one was only 19. They all died by either jumping from the building, suffocating or burning to death. People say it's one of the most haunted buildings in the city and it does have a really creepy energy to it. I'd pass on living across the street from that thing. Henry James was born directly nextdoor at 27 Washington Place. And, Cornelius Vanderbilt died across the street at 10 Washington Place. Apparently, there used to be stables and a race track on his property which is just wild.
There's not much else to remark about in regards to this street save maybe the Stoned Crow. Interesting name for an establishment, but it definitely suits the history. Most of the street is just apartments and park which isn't too shabby for a street -- except for all the bodies.

"The #1 spot in Manhattan!!!"
The actual street is positioned right amongst some of the hottest bars, restaurants and shops in Manhattan. And the best thing is this street is tucked away so that it's not that noisy. Plus it's 1 min walk to the subway.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in Manhattan.
Drawbacks? It's pretty pricey.
Enjoy Manhattan here, you will love it.
