"Gals day out kind of street"
If South Beverly is a mecca for chains in the food and beverage department, it definitely pulls its weight in the boutique side of things. North Bev seems to hold all of the chain shopping like the Gap and Crate and Barrel (this is one of the biggest Crate and Barrels I have ever seen), but South Beverly has great boutiques such as Lisa Kline and Switch. They are overpriced, of course, but for a tourist, these shops can't be beat. They have such a great selection of designers, the spaces aren't scary or overwhelming like nearby Saks, et al. And, people seem to really love being able to walk around with a Lisa Kline bag. You want to boutique shop, ladies, South Bev is a great place to start. Oh, and 14 karats is on South Bev just north of Wilshire! It has some really great jewelry that is significantly less expensive than most other shops in the area. I still have diamond hoops from there that I got probably 10 years ago. They're great!
As far as living on this street, I would pass. There isn't anywhere to live until you get south of Wilshire and that's a little sketchy (especially for the price). I would just consider this street a place to go for lunch and shopping.
