Moving to Brooklyn! Help!

I am planning to move from Pennsylvania to Brooklyn with my middle-school aged daughter - What are the safest, but also most cost-efficient areas? Between her dance school and my place of employment, I am unsure of where exactly would be the best place to live - I am not familiar with the subway system letters! Any and all help is welcome!

No place in Brooklyn is "cost efficient". Try outer Queens, Staten Island or the Bronx. You will not find any apartment under $1500 unless its a dump or in a bad area like Brownsville or Canarsie. Do yourself and your daughter a favor and find something outside of Brooklyn. Go to NYC MTA website and look at the transit map-you have many more choices than just Brooklyn.
