Day trip to Cold Spring?

I'm planning a day trip to Cold Spring, and I'm interested in hiking- however I'm looking for a more moderate trail that's not too long.

Any suggestions? Also, is there a good restaurant for a post-hike meal? Thanks!

If you have a car, drive ten minutes from Cold Spring to Garrison and park at the Garrison Train Station, then look for two stone pillars and a sign that says "Arden Point." You can pick up Marcia's Mile and circle back, it's an easy hike and you can get right down to the river if you cross the bridge above the train tracks. If you're taking the train to Cold Spring, walk through the village and pick up either the Nelsonville Trail (moderate) or Bull Hill (Mount Taurus) which is more difficult. Get maps - you'll need them. Post-hike, try Riverview Restaurant on Fair Street. Great food and (naturally) a river view.

We are lucky to have so many accesses to spectacular vistas here in Philipstown, which includes the towns of Cold Spring, Garrison and Nelsonville. The town website, www.philipstown.com has a link to 22 hikes in Philipstown. History buffs will enjoy a stroll along the Old Albany Post Rd, the oldest road in the country. Our section in Garrison remains unpaved and there are mile markers which date back to the First Postmaster General, Benjamin Franklin. Check out the Old Road Society's website for some historical information. Check out the link to Continental Village on the town's website or my links on my agent page.

For restaurants, I always like the Cold Spring Depot. It's more casual and low-key, but after a day of hiking it'll probably fill the bill. They have great desserts!
