Backyard Barbeques

In my apartment, I often smell the scent of something burning. The person is either cooking food or burning something else.

When I find out where the smoke is coming from, if the burning item is too close to the building I live in, I say something.

What about you. Have you experienced someone burning something in the back of your building, only to find they are doing it to close?

Knowing how close buildings are to each other, if anyone creates a fire for whatever reason, there is a chance that fire could spread.

So far no comments have been posted. I might like to add that any time someone burns something in the back of a building, he or she is risking a fire, especially when the fire is too close to the building.

@hhusted sometimes in my kitchen I get the smell of cigarette smoke.. I know its one of my neighbors who is out on the landing having a puff or two .. maybe he/she is not allowed to smoke indoors and thus heads out to landing ..who knows ?

@Uptowngirl: Even in that situation, your neighbor has to be careful. Because if your neighbor throws the butt toward the building, it may land where it shouldn't and start a fire.

@uptowngirl Wow... I know my roommate smokes in her room, but I can never smell even a trace of cigarette smoke! I think I would be upset if my neighbors' nasty habits were infiltrating my kitchen, especially if I lived in a co-op!

@ajadedidealist Does it remind you of something you are nostalgic for? I can deal with the scent of cigars, but not cigs...

@Ajadedidealist: I can't even stand the smell of smoke, either from cigarettes, pipes, or cigars. The smoke smells horrible and makes me gag. That's why I never smoked and I hate to see people smoke. They don't seem to realize how dangerous it is to their health.

@JenMac Yeah, to your point, a close friend who's a doctor smokes, and another one who's a dentist is a pretty heavy drinker (and for dentists shaky hands can be the end of a career). Obviously they both know they shouldn't be doing what they're doing, but it's hard to lecture an adult.
