The Town of Poughkeepsie doesn't really have a vibrant central location, unless one would consider Raymond Avenue by Vassar College as filling that role. In the Town of Poughkeepsie, you've got Route 9 as the main highway slicing through, and there's a lot of traffic and nowadays a lot of places to shop, eat, and whatever, but there's nothing really vibrant about it. It's pretty much just your run-of-the-mill busy, growing suburb.

I've lived in the Town of Poughkeepsie my whole life aside from college and if you asked me to identify this town's "downtown" area, I probably wouldn't be able to do it. The town seems pretty decentralized, if that's even the right word to use in this situation. A lot of it is residential and there are malls and strip malls to fill in the gaps.

The area around Vassar may be the closest Poughkeepsie comes to a small, active village atmosphere, but it's definitely not all the way there.
