I like that Putnam County offers some affordable housing options for people who want the serenity of living in a less developed setting. AND it is still within driving distance of the high-energy of NYC. This balance of access to fun and quiet, at reasonable prices, is a stand-out feature of Putnam County.

I like the open space and lack of traffic. Granted, some places are congested at certain times of day. However, I grew up on Long Island and am still down there pretty frequently, and the amount of traffic there is mind-boggling to me. LI is also super-developed. My parents have the convenience of having supermarkets and Target, etc. very close by, but I don't mind having to drive a little. I also really like that the county values the arts- the Putnam Arts Council and Arts on the Lake are great organizations, and Brewster's Studio Around the Corner is a great space.
