"Larchmont - a European flavor and just 18 miles or so from midtown Manhattan"
Whenever people ask me to compare Larchmont to say Scarsdale or Greenwich, I have to mention how Larchmont offers upscale living, water views (if desired), fine dining, the Manor Park (which is approximately 13 acres of tranquility and offers approximately 5000 ft. of shoreline), popular schools and it is all just 35 minutes or so by train to New York City. This is compared to Scarsdale with no access to the Long Island Sound, and Greenwich which is listed further away from the city. With a French American School in the Manor, Larchmont has long been a favorite of Europeans. Not just for the wealthy, there are some smaller lesser priced homes, coops and condos which might not fit everyone's budget, and one doesn't obtain a large home for the prices offered. Approximately 5800 people in Larchmont per the 2010 census, and just 18 miles from midtown Manhattan. No wonder Larchmont was ranked 11th in 2005 as one of the best places to live in the United States. The easy access to the trains, dining and recreation are a big attraction also as Larchmont Village is only about 1.1 square miles. Many of the long time residents will either buy larger homes in Larchmont or downsize to smaller but all wishing to stay in Larchmont.. that is the appeal of this community... People simply love it!
