Juan Tabo Blvd Northeast
"Flying Star Cafe!!"
I know there are a few of these in Alby, but this is the one we went to. I thought it was so unique and had a small private cafe feel to it. Unlike those large green logo'ed coffee shops you see all over the world. It had a beautiful patio which had all these little plants around it. The interior was vibrant in color and their OWN bakery had the best cookies ever!
Academy Rd Northeast
"Not just the typical suburbs!"
My buddy grew up here around Wyoming and Academy. As we were heading to his parents house I noticed the strip malls and set back yards and semi detached homes. You know, typical suburbs. But as we pulled in and stepped out of the car I saw the back drop of the Sandia Mountains and my jaw dropped. Absolutely stunning, he then mentioned that there was plenty of things to do, like hiking or even head down to the golf course and hit 9.
West Jefferson St
"Get your drink on."
Even though some of these establishments are located on Walton I'll summarize Armoury Square here. Whether its Blue Task, PJ Dorseys, Kitty Hoynes, OHM, Daisy Dukes or Awful Als there are several different establishments for getting your drink on. As you can tell there are pub-like, lounge-like, club-like establishments. Personally Clark's Ale house is one of the best places with a bountiful selection of beers on tap and overall a very chill place any day of the week.
West Genesee St
"208 West Genessee - Lao's Village!"
West Genessee takes you through downtown Syracuse and while theres a lot of municipal and institutional buildings there isnt much for restaurants or commercial areas. There are places off Genessee like the infamous Dinosaur BBQ off Willow and several others. However Lao's Village is the little gem at 208 West genessee and has some of the best (for Syracuse) offerings of Pad Thai and red and green curry. A Must try
Euclid Ave
"Syracuse University's West Gateway"
Euclid is filled with student housing and residences for professors and employees of Syracuse University. All in all a great neighborhood, especially as it connects with Westcott and Thornden Park. It terminates westward into Syracuse University. Specifically between the South Campus dorms and Slocum Hall. A great street to travel to get a gradient feel of Syracuse University campus and surrounding heading westward.
Wolf St
"110 Wolf Street - thats all you need to know. Stellas Diner."
The only thing I know that is great about Wolf Street can be summed up in one word. Stella's. Whether you want some brunch an early breakfast or just some grub cause you just drank a lot and have no idea what to do. This is the place, diner food at its best and also open early at 5am. Carousel Center
"Shopping, Eating, Movies, Just wasting time"
As any good mall should, this feeds all the needs of suburban dwellers. With plenty of parking and access via Centro bus Carousel is consistently filled with people. As it plans to expand to become "Destiny USA" a greener, bigger and better place for leisure hope springs for Syracuse and its ability to make an impact on its citizens.
University Pl
"This IS Syracuse University"
A drive down this street and you've pretty much driven through the heart of Syracuse University's campus. As you see Crouse Hall and the long descending path down to Marshall St and you pass the brutal looking Bird Library and Schine Center (needs much improvement as a REAL student union). As you pass you see the Carrier Dome in the background signifying all those memories of athletic success (and failure) of Orange past.
Westcott St
""Vibrant, interesting great food for Syracuse""
Between Genessee and Kensington theres a bit of going ons. The theater, some great restaurants and cafes. Personally, Munjeds and Alto Cinco are fantastic gems in Syracuse. Featuring Middle Eastern food and alternative/Cali-Mex food respectively. Theres Taps across the street, as gritty as it seems, its got to be the cheapest place to get drinks in Syracuse and just a nice place to chill out. Theres Second Story Books which has a cafe now for a changeup from the Starbucks and the likes.
Erie Blvd East
""You need a place to grab a decent meal, dont know where to go? This street is your best chance""
If you have no idea what to eat. Erie will most definitely have something. If its fast food from Burger King and McDonalds to Brueggers and HK Take Out. Those are some smash and grab joints. I personally find Tokyo Seoul, Tully's and China Buffet to be the most interesting choices. There are plenty, a quick on Google will find you some choices or just get in your car and drive 5-10 min up and down.

"Great for students, okay for grad students, almost unpleasant for anything after"
As a graduate student I lived on Standart Street and it was exactly as you expect an off-campus residence would be like except its a bit quieter due to the fact theres only about 6-8 "houses" subdivided into several apartments. Also, because it is surrounded by parking lots to the south and west there isnt as much of pedestrian traffic outside of commuters parking and walking to campus.
