"Just eh."
There's an interesting building with a ton of windows around it right at 27th and the water. You can't miss it if you're into architecture. There isn't much on the furthest west side of 27th and FIT takes up the entire block between 7th and 8th. If you're a fashion student, the commute to school would be easy as pie, I suppose. There are a lot of really old buildings between 6th and 7th (some of them are pretty cool) but all of the shops in them are so odd. One of the bigger modeling agencies is here, a sandwich shop, a leather store, a toy shop, etc. It's an interesting block but I've never patronized any of the stores.
There are a number of grand, old buildings on the block 5th and 6th. Both buildings on the corner of 27th and 6th are giant luxury high rises. There are a few hotels on this block that used to be noteworthy but no longer are. Now, I don't know that anyone normal stays there. They're not crackhead hotels, but just not popular ones. The Stella Adler acting school is on this block as well. It's famous for teaching Brando, De Niro, et al but it no longer has quite the reputation it used to have -- although, it is still a great school.
