"Koreatown madness"

West 32nd has a lot of traffic from Penn Station and MSG so I would not recommend living on it. It makes transportation out of the city easy; but there's just way too much riffraff to want to live around here. Especially considering that it's not exactly cheap. The corner of 7th Ave and 32 is the legendary Hotel Penn. It's where all the big bands stayed when they came into town because of its proximity to the trains and the performance areas. I can only imagine what kind of debauchery went on in those rooms. It's not much of a place to hang out these days. But, then again, nothing in this area really is. There's a really obnoxious "square" about a block east. I have never understood the point of this place. Like who wants to just sit in the middle of the street for an hour? But, people do. So, what do I know . . .
Once you traverse Broadway, you get into Koreatown which 32nd is largely known for. Koreatown has a lot of establishments, predominantly on 32nd, that are open 24 hours and this street has many times been the death of me. Many ill conceived nights have led to an afterhours karaoke bar on the south side of 32nd and then emerging when it is light out to eat at the 24 hour Korean BBQ place directly across the street. I don't recommend doing this more than once in your life (the next day is always worthless); but, man, is it fun. So fun to me, in fact, that I've done it more than once. The block between 5th and Broadway can keep you up literally all night drinking and eating. It's pretty unreal. But, fun.
Pros
  • Late night Karaoke
  • Penn Station
  • 24 hour grub that's actually good
Cons
  • Dirty
  • Sketchy at night
  • Crowded

"The tree of hope"

The Avenue of the Americas or 6th Avenue is the best street in NYC. It is on this street you can visit the Rockefeller tree. This street is lined with trees as you walk down looking at stores and beauty. In the winter time this street makes Christmas come to life. Every tree is lit all the way up to Rockefeller Center. I wish I could live on this street. It is so quiet and peaceful.

"Wide Tree lined Streets"

This is a perfect street and one of my favorite streets. It runs from Central Park, with elegant Residential buildings, and it is tree lined. At a point the Avenue of the Americas or 6th Avenue as its best knows turns into a shoppers paradise, with iconic stores like Macys. The buildings through out the street are of a classy architecture. There are a variety of restaurant and clubs that line this vibrant and fun street. The downside of 6th Avenue it that it is constantly packed with tourist(like me), so it can be hectic and really busy, but realy worth the visit.

"Got to love that Radio City Music Hall sign"

As far as famous landmarks go, it’s hard to beat Radio City Music Hall which can be found on Sixth Avenue. As a tourist, its one of the most recognisable images in New York (which is saying something) and you have to see it at night when there is a performance taking place. With the lights on and that famous neon sign spelling out its name, you’ll be whisked away to all the famous films and gigs throughout the last century and its exactly why you want to visit New York. Its sometimes hard to remember that New York is a living breathing city with so many people calling it their home because the sense of occasion and grandeur about so much in the city makes it the perfect tourist location.

"6 Av - Avenue de Las Americas"

6th Avenue is a long New York Avenue. It runs from Franklin Street to the Southern tip of Central Park. On its northern part, the avenue hosts a famous row of shining skyscrapers. Around W 35th St, it turns into a shopping street - Macy’s is there - and becomes less pretentious in its southern part (Avenue de Las Americas). An interesting building is the Jefferson Market Library in the Greenwich Village.

"Wonderfully vibrant and alive"

6th Avenue is one of those streets that just feels alive at anytime of the day or night. In midtown there are eateries, hotels and great shops to stop in but the real vibe of New York can be felt by the street vendors. Great food can be found from carts on street corners, Top notch gyros and gyro platters are easy to come buy and a real soft pretzel is never more than a block away. Further downtown it gives way to great coffeehouses that send fragrant aromas through the air. Sometimes New York can be captured by a smell and that smell can be found on 6th avenue.

"Heart of Manhattan"

I head to 6th Avenue (or the Avenue of the Americas) on a weekly basis and it's one of my favorite places in the city. 6th around 53rd street encompasses so many wonderful things and I feel like it pulls together everything that the city is all about. The structures are awe inspiring but it still maintains the "charm" factor that true New Yorkers are always looking for. Some of the greatest food i've ever had is from a street vendor on the corner of 53rd and 6th. The Halal Gyro stand offers gyro platters and flat bread sandwiches to massive lines starting at 7:30pm. If you are visiting the city you'll know it by the massive line that forms. It often stretches 100 people deep.

"Superb French Roast!"

Although 6th ave in itself does not sand out too much as fantastic, some of the little eateries nestled in it are quite enticing. For example, settle into French Roast on 6th ave and 11th street and you will findyourself transported by the delectable aromas of brewing French Onion Soup, and especially on a chilly winter's night, you'll be comforted by a big mug of Chocolat Chaud. 6th ave is nice to stroll on, although sometimes traffic congestion can make for a bit of a noisy walk. Living here, especially downtown can be a bit of a headache because of this. Overall 6th ave provides a pleasant atmosphere, and for the most part, provides easy access to teh 1 or 9 subway line.
