Aircons running constantly

The NYTimes had a recent article on how some New Yorkers are incredible wasteful as they leave their air conditioners on for days at time even when they are away at work or on holiday so that they come home to a cool home. Now I have been guilty of this practice as I do tend to leave an air conditioner running if I am out running errands and are due back home soon though I have never left an air conditioner running for days on end while I am on vacation. You?
Here's the article it sure stirs up another controversy..

No wonder people do it if utilities are included in the rent! Just let them pay the electric bills on their own and they'll learn to shut of the A/C in a matter of days. Sheesh. This one's so obvious.

That's really ridiculous! But I have to say that if you have central air instead of window units it's actually cheaper to just leave it on, and advisable. Not that many people have that around here.

Also, it's crazy to think that some people pay a rent with utilities included and don't have to pay for any overages! Every place I ever had that included utilities in the rent also charged for any overages of those utilities. They must be paying for more utilities than they use for the rest of the year....
