Country mouse, city mouse

Just wanted to share this amusing article I found written by an Iowa "farm girl" coming to the big city.

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/17/nyregion/thecity/17iowa.html?_r=1&ref=thecity. Any of you country transplants?

Mine are more suburban than anything, but I can relate to coming to New York and finding out that I am definitely a Florida girl. I miss being tan so much!

Me too BroadwayBK! I am so so pale since I've moved here. I miss the beach and the sun and green so much!

@JenMac At least everyone is pale? That's what I tell myself, anyway. I almost went to the tanning bed the other day, but I don't want to go all Snooki on NYC.

@everyone I think that girl from Iowa really had a point when she said that city dwellers even only vacation in other cities. I think that's pretty true, however much I dream of heading upstate for a nice log cabin stay, I am probably more likely to head for Miami when it comes down to it.

@Uptowngirl and Ajadedidealist: Yeah, I'm from the country. Born and partially raised in Virginia. Spent 3/4 of my life in the southern part of NJ.

@BroadwayBK and @JenMak: Why don't you to go back to Florida if you miss it so much. :) I know if I lived there, I wouldn't even think of coming here, at least not long term. On the other hand, I am sure you two had agendas to fulfill as the reason you came here. Why not go back every so often to relive the days you were there. Hmmm.....

@BroadwayBK that's so true.. for my honeymoon I booked us into a resort in a remote part of Malaysia which is known for its rain forest setting. The husband was so bored and didn't want to go on any nature walks etc He only came alive when we got to the big city environment of Kuala Lumpur . I must admit I too like vacationing in cities though I do also relish the thought of a beach resort.
