Dual Milk Expiration Dates to be Eliminated

Today, I read on NY1 that the health department of NYC will stop the practice of using dual milk expiration dates.

Apparently NYC is one of few places that does this.

You can read more about it here:

@hhusted huh?I have never noticed dual expiration dates.. I always tend to follow the 'best before' dates but then I often buy UHT milk rather than fresh milk as I use mainly Soy milk which I get from Trader Joe's.

@Uptowngirl: I used to buy soy milk, but it has too much potassium. My doctor ordered me to cut down on it. So I now buy almond milk. It has a lot less potassium and is better for me to.

@hhusted even my nutritionist has advised that I should limit my soy milk consumption to one serving a day and no more.. I used to love tofu and other soy products but now I am quite judicious in my consumption of soy.

@Uptowngirl: That's right. If we are to live a long time, we must learn to take care of our bodies. You are a smart woman. Glad to see you care enough about your health to try and eat right.

Yeah, I never really understood the "two dates" policy! Then again, I usually employ the "sniff test." If it smells okay, I drink it! I usually only just drink milk in coffee or tea so I rarely taste it.

@hhusted we live in such unpredictable times where all sorts of diseases abound so you have no choice but to be prudent in your food choices.. I am a totally foodie and I usually love seafood but ever since I learned that calamari/squid is extremely high in cholesterol I have been staying off one of my favorite treats. Usually when foods taste good they are really bad for you...thats the way the cookies crumbles.

@Uptowngirl: Yep, that's the way it goes. Oh, well. We just have to be smart about eating if we expect to live long and prosper.

I wish they had almond milk by the gallon. Then I could by more of it and spend less money having to keep up. But I do love chocolate soy milk. YUM
I should recommend the soy to my step mother. She needs the potassium for her . . .oh gosh I forgot what it's called. It's where the nerves in your body are in pain all the time and you have to take meds for it. There's four stages, too.

@Freyja4: Almond Milk is sold by the gallon, at least it is at the store where I shop. Maybe it hasn't reached your neck of the woods yet. Is what you are talking about arthritis? Oh, wait a minute. Arthritis involved the joints. I have to remember my medical knowledge for this one. Are all nerves in pain or just certain ones?

@hhusted: Fibromyalgia. That's it.

And no, I haven't see the gallons since I started drinking it. I hope they get over here.

@JenMac: Yes. I totally agree with you. Even my doctor told me almond milk is much better for you.

@Freyja4: Thanks for reminding me about it. I wrote articles on Fibromyalgia, so I know exactly what it is and what causes it. Sad.

Almond milk sounds amazing! I actually love soy milk - prefer the taste to regular milk - so I imagine I'd like it, too.
Coconut milk is also great - though I'd never put it in my tea or cereal or anything. But I love it in sauce.

@jenmac its not coconut milk but coconut oil that helps hair and skin though some studies also show that coconut oil is not as bad as it is believed to be for cooking and frying. It is loaded with fats but apparently they are the good kind.

And anyways, if you excercise well in combination with a healthy diet, a little bit of fat once in a while isn't a big deal.

I've been getting lots of exercise just having two kids around and cleaning+cooking. Haven't actually had the chance to write articles with the fourth being the center of it all. Plus, my b-day the day before. Had great fun.

@uptowngirl - mmmm Thai curry. One of my favorite meals. I just try to close my eyes and ignore the fat, because it's oh-so-delicious. I still think a "common sense"/"sensible" diet is the most effective of all (lots of fruit and veggies, lots of lean meats, carbs in moderation, a dessert or special treat once in a while, reasonable portions.)

@Ajadedidealist: It has been a month and a half from my surgery and I still am not permitted to eat hard food. So I envy anyone who can eat such stuff. However, I was told I'll be able to go back to a regular diet in a few weeks. When that happens, I'm going to pig out.
