Pretty in Pink, The Brownstone Edition

I have long been meaning to Google this brownstone that I've often passed, but only now just remembered to do so: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/12/nyregion/thecity/12fuch.html?_r=1&fta=y

I never would've guessed that a 90-year-old man lives inside that bubblegum-colored brownstone!

Does everyone else's property value go down when someone coats their house with such a bold color? Or does property value go up when your home attracts news crews and tourists?

Here are some less hostile quotes from the owner: http://gothamist.com/2006/09/22/park_slope_brow.php

@NeverSleeps Golly! only in NYC I guess...hmmm dont know about the effect on property values..

Speaking of weird colors my neighbor has a scarlet colored living room that I find really jarring. I can understand the color in the winter when it is freezing but in the sultry NYC summers I find it stifling and oppressive guess I like neutrals best..

It's not a color, but that east village townhouse with all of the gargoyles covering it is definitely interesting.

@JenMac Where is that? I don't think I've ever noticed.

@NeverSleeps It is a little strange that someone pained a brownstone any color, isn't it? I thought those things tended to line up pretty homogeneously along the streets of the Slope.

I just looked at the article. That is a pretty color. It really does stand out.

He's 90, which makes him
a) awesome and
b) able to get away with whatever he wants.

More power to Mr. Henry!

@ajadedidealist Yeah, I have to say I really enjoyed his crotchety quote to the Times. Kinda classic.

I love Mr. Henry! You tell 'em, Mr. Henry! I mean, a guy who is 90 presumably doesn't want to spend the rest of his brief time among us answering dumb questions about the color of his house!
