Story of the year: NY Times discovers Brooklyn
Did anyone else fall in love with Brian Williams for his diatribe about the New York Times discovering Brooklyn? ("There are young men and women wearing ironic glass frames on the streets! There are open air markets, like trading posts in the early Chippewa tribe, where you can make beads at home and then trade them for someone to come over and start a small fire in your apartment that you share with nine others! Artisanal cheeses! For sale, on the streets of an entire American borough!")

That is priceless. I love how dry his delivery is. What a wanker that writer is.

Is it safe to venture out to Brooklyn? Aren't the inhabitants...savage?

Whilst hanging out in Williamsburg, my friends who reside in the city always make jokes about being shot.

Agree with JenMac, I love his dry delivery and how he just keeps going! He had to have practiced that ahead of time.

I wanna get on the flash artisanal market too! Hit that up and then stare at the cool inhabitants with their horn rimmed glasses and foreign adornments.

I really think he's captured the spirit of hipster irony as well.

I wonder if the NY Times will ever write another article on the magical wonders of Brooklyn?

I watched the video and had to smile. It was funny in a way. Brian's take on Brooklyn. I haven't been to Brooklyn in over a year. I have heard people say to stay away from Brooklyn or you'll get shot. But the way he describes it makes you want to take a look.

I usually love the New York Times. God bless its coddled Manhattanite highbrow irrelevance! (no, in all serious, I read The Ethicist and Social Qs religiously!)

@hhusted Obviously you don't read the New York Times if you still think you're likely to get shot anywhere in Brooklyn. I mean, it's not impossible, but....
@ajadedidealist Both great columns. My religion tends to stick with Modern Love and the entire Sunday Real Estate section.

@BroadwayBK I have been subscribed to the online edition of the NYT for years and read everything and anything. Love Thomas Friedman and of course the real estate section..

@Uptowngirl and BroadwayBK: I do have a subscription to the online version of the NY Times, but haven't been to the site in over a year. I just don't get time to.

Or, any other publication, obviously, if you think you'll be shot in Brooklyn any more than you would be in Manhattan. Yep, the perilous danger and exotic flavors of Cobble Hill. And, the stroller brigade in Park Slope? They may as well be guerillas . . . . it's a war zone out there. Don't let the brownstones fool you kids.

@NeverSleeps Those are some awesome pics. Can't believe anyone could make Bed-Stuy look so good; I think I'm going to have to check out that guy's show this summer.

So I thought Brooklyn was emptying out in the great Manhattan land grab, now that the recession is driving Manhattan prices down people are crossing the water? Is the NYT not in on this?

@Uraniumfish My guess is that we'll hear about it next year. Have you seen any stories on the topic elsewhere?
