The Brooklyn Brunch Experiment

Don't know if any of you guys are budding chefs or just adore cooking, but I thought this was pretty cool: http://www.thefoodexperiments.com/

A bunch of chefs are getting together to compete over who can make the best brunch item, and the audience gets to try the goods, so there is room for everyone to get involved - if you don't like cooking, I'm going to have to assume you enjoy eating all the same.

And assuming that a New Yorker's favorite meal actually is brunch, where do you get yours? Lately I've become partial to Buttermilk Channel down in my neck of the woods: http://www.buttermilkchannelnyc.com/

You're so right that brunch is the supreme New York meal. I think I'm still under the spell of Cafe Gitane in Nolita, though I've been meaning to broaden my horizons now that the weather is inviting.

@NeverSleeps; I have breakfast in the morning but don't eat again until dinner, which is usually around 5pm or 6pm. However, there have been occasions where I didn't eat until 8pm. But I do thank you for posting.

That sounds fantastic! Although my favorite brunch is the popovers at Island on 94th and Madison that are served free on Sundays before a meal - delicious!

I gotta go with Bubby's in Tribeca! My friends and I are total fatties, so we get the banana cream pie as a brunch hor d'oeuvre. It's off the chain.

Man... I haven't been to brunch in sooooo long! It is really a warm weather activity. I prefer having my mimosa and eggs Benedict on a patio somewhere.

@BroadwayBK I agree with you there but the idea of making my own eggs Benedict? It's just not happening.

When I lived in the area, Sarabeth's used to be a favorite.

Oh. Duh. I'll have to read more carefully next time. So where is a good place with the right combination of sun drenched patio and eggs Benedict? I'm there.

You guys! I've been thinking about eggs Benedict so much lately! I wish my friends didn't all have 9-to-5's - I'd be searching for a place that had one right now.

I've never been super-keen on Sarabeth's - I think it's expensive and the quality isn't great for what there is on offer. Island right next door is much better. Although one great brunch place is the Flea Market Cafe in the East Village, right off Tompkin's Square Park. Lots of egg dishes, with a French twist!

Another slightly strange rec: Cafe Mogador on St. Marks between 1st Ave and Avenue A. It's a Moroccan place, but it also has a non-Moroccan "brunch" menu and is very, very popular with the East Village neighborhood scene. Their tagines and couscous ain't bad, either.

I don't really appreciate the bar atmosphere at Sunburnt Cow, but they have an awesome Eggs Benedict on crabcakes dish that is worth the dark hole-in-the-wall setting.

I had lunch at Soda yesterday, and it was surprisingly decent. I got a sunburn on their outdoor back patio, however.

@BroadwayBK the Sunburnt Cow have just opened their new place - The Sunburnt Calf on the UWS and I can't wait to try it. Apparently it already has long lines outside its door!
