"Marina del Rey-- Still cheaper than Santa Monica."

Marina del Rey is just a few miles south of Venice, yet this Los Angeles neighborhood is a much more upscale community. Marina del Rey is probably best known for its world largest man made harbor. This waterside community offers a huge variety of public boating which is great for fishing trips. Harbor tours and dinner cruises are also very popular. If you are looking for a home with a big yard, Marina del Rey is not the place for you. You would be better off looking in Playa del Rey, Santa Monica, Venice or Redondo Beach. A part of the Marina has a very touristy feel to it, such as the Fisherman’s Wharf area with its cute shops and great restaurants. Marina del Rey is great for apartment living, as many have a view of the harbor and the ocean. Rent is pretty high and parking can be quite a problem out there. There is enough to do in the Marina—great restaurants, parks, beaches, bike path, the harbor, shopping. The major employers in the area are hotels, airlines, and the L.A. Department of Beaches. Marina del Rey is still cheaper than Santa Monica.
