E Day attack

I've been seeing ads for E Day in NYC in the subway lately.

Who thinks spending money on huge earth images at Grand Central is going to make the world a better place? Or reduce carbon emissions?

That's money that could probably be better spent elsewhere, I agree. But then I always wonder at the huge sums that are spent on marketing ventures...

It's like the whole "purchase carbon offsets" thing - yes, there's some benefit to it, but not as much as many organizations would have us think; throwing money at a problem doesn't automatically fix it!

@DBlack You have to wonder at the wasteful expenditure that undertaken by city officials. I think most of us are aware of Earth day and Green Living. We hardly need more awareness only campaigns. Anyway you cant really miss the adverts that NY state puts out on the
the broadcast networks for its shining example conservation effort .http://www.shiningexampleny.com/ they seem all over the place and I am sure draw attention to the problem quite adequately.

Did you guys see last night's Law and Order? It was all about global working/eco-scientists, although the plot meandered from there, as it usually does on L&O?

It seems like they could use the same public campaign money to encourage people to DO something about it (recycle ten bottles this week, or what have you, to show concrete results) not just put up a big ole sign that everyone can then ignore.

@uptowngirl Funny, I have one of those conservation light bulbs because my bank gave it to me when I signed up for a new account. Like, instead of a free toaster I got an energy efficient light bulb. They're actually pretty great.

@ajadedidealist I refuse to watch L&O unless it features Jerry Orbach. :)

@everyone This forum reminds me that someone really needs to change the batteries in the smoke detector in our hallway. If only I could reach the thing...

@DBlack Correct me if I am wrong but aren't energy efficient bulbs are also more expensive than ordinary ones right? at least that is the case in many countries outside the USA. though they tend to last longer than ordinary bulbs.. we use energy efficient bulbs at home but I havent really bought one as we have a stock of them in storage,

@BroadwayBk Strange coincidence we just changed the batteries of the smoke detector installed in our bedroom last friday but we had to use a tall ladder to do so of course.
