Need shoes baaadly

Somebody tell me where I can get high quality shoes that I can actually afford in this city? I know this has come up in various other threads but I've lost the overview of where to find the information. I'm looking for good sample sales, or discounted designer stuff, or just well-made shoes at reasonable prices wherever I can find them.

Remember, I am a serious shoe snob and have ridiculously high standards for quality. They gotta be leather, they gotta last, they gotta be tasteful. I usually buy my shoes in Europe when I'm there, but I'm not planning a trip any time soon, so...

@Uraniumfish then you might want to check out the Hermes sale which begins on Wednesday and has a preview on Tuesday.

@uptowngirl Okay, fair enough. Much as I love Hermes, I doubt I could really afford it, even at 70% discounts. Know of any places that have rather more "middle class" prices but high quality. Am I asking for the impossible?

@Uraniumfish: How about Show Warehouse on Long Island. I hear the prices there are cheap and the shoes are of good quality.

Uraniumfish: You may not be interested, but I bought a great pair of shoes at Wal-Mart and they lasted for three years. That is an alternative if you have a tight budget.

ORVA on 86th St isn't so bad. I have lately tended to buy my shoes used (I got lucky and found 10 designer (ie, leather, super-nice, etc) shoes in mint condition, exactly my size, for $5 each at a garage sail....) but I like Orva for good, simple stuff. Pimkie is also a good bet.
